STRIPPING: When stripping
a concrete floor in a warehouse, industrial
manufacturing area, recreation center, etc.
it is a help to know what type of seal or finish
you are to remove. Cure & seals, polyurethanes,
epoxies, and water based seals may be removed
by using a modern type paint and varnish remover
with the aid of a conventional floor machine
equipped with a wire brush, nylo-grit pad, or
stiff bassine bristle brush. The paint and varnish
remover is spread liberally on the floor and
allowed to work for 15-25 min. Stripper should
not dry on the floor but should be kept wet
either with a fine water spray or additional
stripper. After waiting the alloted time, scrub
floor with floor machine as afore mentioned.
Pick up residue with wet/dry vacuum, rinse and
re-vacuum. If wet/dry vacuum is not available,
sawdust or sweeping compound may be sprinkled
on wet area and then shoveled into drums. Two
or more rinses should be used when shoveling
operation is over.
If the above type seals have been waxed or coated
with an acrylic floor finish or have an abundance
of oil and dirt on the surface, floor should
be degreased or cleaned with Rubber Burn Remover/Concrete
Cleaner prior to seal removal. This allows paint
and varnish remover to use its stripping strength
on the seal rather than expending itself cutting
through dirt, greases, and waxes.
REFINISHING FLOOR: Concrete flooring,
which has been properly stripped, is now ready
for application of Aquathane CS or HP. The etching
of a floor is an option based on the condition
of the concrete. Extremely smooth cement may
be etched with an acid solution to produce good
adhesion of sealer to substrate. If etching
is performed, several rinses should be applied
prior to sealing.
Aquathane CS or HP may now be applied using
either lambs wool pad applicators, pump-up sprayers,
airless spray equipment, mop or finish applicator.
Roughness of substrate should determine type
of application equipment needed. Apply at the
rate of approximately 800-1000 sq./gal. Allowing
45 minutes dry time between coats. Two or three
coats should suffice depending on traffic in
the recoat area. Total curing time prior to
foot traffic is 8 hours. This product is colorless
and will not yellow even in ultra-violet light.
Good chemical resistance and ease of application
make this the ideal product to seal and finish
concrete, concrete aggregate, quarry tile, and
flagstone.
FLOOR CARE: Finished floor may be cleaned
at intervals with all purpose cleaner or cleaner
degreaser type detergents, either manually or
with auto-scrubber. |
